Gaye Terwillegar, Executive Director:
Gaye has served as Executive Director of COHP since December 2001. Previous to her position at COHP, Gaye attended graduate
school in pursuit of a second career in Health Promotion at Central Michigan University. Gaye has championed COHP to new levels of
growth and impact to Midland County youth and parents as well. Striving to change community norms and perceptions on alcohol,
tobacco and drug use, COHP has provided prevention services to the Midland community though implementation of model programs
at 5 schools, 6 after-school and family center sites, initiated several community based programs including FENCES underage alcohol
prevention program and annual alcohol retailer trainings to Midland City and County licensees, initiated the START Youth Coalition
(Students Tackling Alcohol and Resisting Temptation) and most recently successfully secured a Drug Free Communities Support
Grant.
Gaye and husband Don have two children, Tara and Todd. Don and Gaye reside in the Bullock Creek area, where Don is
self-employed in agri-business. As a native of the Midland area, Gaye brings not only her knowledge of public health initiatives to
Circle of Health, but also a familiarity with the Midland community. Gaye was a member of Leadership Midland 2001 and has also
taught Health and Wellness at Delta College. Gaye has recently completed 2 terms as a member of the Midland-Gladwin Red Cross
Board of Directors, is a Senior High Youth leader at Messiah Lutheran Church and is on the Steering Team for Youth Leadership
Midland. In her free time, Gaye enjoys playing in Midland Community Orchestra and Chemical City Band.
